Invoice requirements in the Netherlands

Checked 21 October 2026. General guidance, not tax advice.

Dutch invoices must show your KVK number (from the Chamber of Commerce) as well as your VAT ID. Sole traders should use their btw-identificatienummer (btw-id) on invoices, not their omzetbelastingnummer.

If you're not registered for VAT (btw)

You usually have to register once your sales pass €20,000 of turnover a year, if you join the small business scheme (KOR).

  • If you use the small business scheme (KOR), you don't charge VAT. Our generator notes that you're exempt under the KOR.

Good to know

  • Write "btw verlegd" on reverse charge invoices, with the customer's VAT ID.
